Colonial Valladolid, Cenote, and Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins Tour Departing Cancun, Playa Del Carmen & Riviera Maya Hotels
You love culture and history, so you’re counting down the days until you visit Riviera Maya. With ancient ruins, colonial towns, and stunning cenotes, this region is full of incredible cultural experiences. It’s easy to take it all in when you go on our Riviera Maya World Wonder Discovery tour! This tour has it all – a trip to the Chichen Itza ruins, a swim in an incredible cenote, and a stop at an authentic colonial town. And just in case that isn’t enough, you will even enjoy an authentic Mexican meal. As you can see, this goes beyond what standard Chichen Itza tours offer, making it a popular choice for people looking for the quintessential experience. Let’s dive in so you can see what you’ll get with this adventure.
The Chichen Itza Mayan ruins are the perfect way to kick off the excursion. Your guide will take the lead on the Chichen Itza tour, explaining the significance of the different ruins, including the pyramid. The Chichen Itza pyramid is stunning enough on its own, but your guide will add some extra context. Oh, and be sure to clap your hands when you’re next to the pyramid. The acoustics are amazing, and they change depending on your location. Don’t worry about feeling silly. This is a common practice at the pyramid.
When your Chichen Itza tour is over, it’ll be time for the next item on the list – a refreshing swim in a cenote. Enjoy the water and eat some snacks while you relax in the water. You’ll feel like a new person when you finish your swim.
While most Riviera Maya tours would end there, you’re just getting started. Next, you’ll travel to Valladolid for some lunch and sightseeing. This ancient colonial city has remained unspoiled by tourists, so you can get an authentic look at what it’s like to live here. Enjoy the colorful streets, talk to the locals, and take in incredible views while you’re here. This hidden gem is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Riviera Maya, and since it’s off the beaten path, you don’t have to worry about crowds ruining the fun.
Whether you want to travel from Cancun to Chichen Itza or Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza, this is the right tour for you. We will pick you up and drop you off and make sure you have a blast in between. This is easily one of the most exciting tours of Chichen Itza, so grab a deal today.

Chichen Itza World Wonder Discovery Tour Recommendations:
- Comfortable walking shoes & light clothing
- Bring a light sweater if you are travelling in the Winter months
- Swimsuit & towel for the cenote
- Sunglasses & hat for sun protection (Chichen Itza is a very open site with little shade)
- Biodegradable sunblock (biodegradable is important to the health of the cenote)
- Eco friendly insect repellent
- Camera (if using a professional grade camera or video equipment inside of the Ruins you may have to pay a $3usd fee)
- We recommend bringing extra money when visiting the Chichen Itza Pyramid for souvenirs, snacks, drinks, and anything extra that might catch your eye. You should bring Mexican pesos with you as US dollars are not currently accepted at the ruins sites. However, there is an ATM on site.
Children: All ages welcome. However, this can be a long tour for small children so please use your own discretion when booking this tour. If you travel with children, you will probably want to pack some snacks and things to entertain them on the bus ride.
Children under the age of 5 are free if they sit on an adult’s lap, but will have to pay the entrance fee to Chichen Itza which is $441 MXN (about $25 USD). Children 5-11 years old pay a discounted rate and all entrance fees & taxes included.
Cruise Ship Passengers: Unfortunately, this tour is not compatible with cruise itineraries. We recommend taking another tour like the Private Tulum Express instead! An amazing Mayan Ruin site that is located on the coast of the Riviera Maya.
Restrictions: Wheelchair guests are welcome so long as the wheelchair is foldable and they’re accompanied by at least one person. Unfortunately, our bus doesn’t have a wheelchair ramp for non-foldable wheelchairs. Should you require a ramp, contact us for a personalized quote. We recommend a private Chichen Itza pyramid tour as another option. Companions are recommended for wheelchair-bound visitors.
Insider Tip: This tour is a little different than most because it involves small groups. With less people on the tour, there is a lot more flexibility in terms of your group’s experience. On the World Wonder Discovery tour you can get away from the crowds of other travelers and really immerse in a new experience.
Groups: Do you have a group of 7 or more? Contact us for a customized quote on private transportation today!
