Tour Description

Classic Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins From Cancun, Playa Del Carmen & Riviera Maya Hotels

The world is full of thousands upon thousands of amazing sights, but few compare to Chichen Itza. As one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, it is in the same category as the Roman Colosseum and the Great Wall of China. See this architectural and cultural masterpiece firsthand on our Riviera Maya Chichen Itza Classic Tour. As one of our most popular tours of Chichen Itza, you will explore the ruins with a guide and have some free time as well. Plus, you will end the day with a refreshing swim in a cenote. Get the details to see why this is a top choice among our Riviera Maya tours.

Your bilingual guide will provide insight into the various structures during this Chichen Itza tour. That includes the Kukulkan Pyramid, which was erected in honor of the feathered serpent god. Legend says Kukulkan still visits the Chichen Itza pyramid twice a year. You might not get to see Kukulkan, but your guide will explain the meaning behind the symbols on this stunning temple and go over the feathered serpent god’s significance during ancient times.

You will also see other incredible sights, including the ancient ball court and the observatory. The observatory is the second most popular structure behind the main temple. During ancient times, the Mayans used it as an astronomical observatory. Today, it provides an excellent example of how advanced the Mayans were in ancient times.

After your guide takes you through the ruins, you will have some free time. You can relax or explore the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins yourself. If you do, you can read the signs in front of the different structures to get even more information.

After you soak up the culture, it will be time to splash around in the water. Your guide will take you to the Ik-Kil Cenote, where you’ll walk down an 85-foot staircase into the water below. This is a great way to end the day after going on one of the most popular Chichen Itza tours in Riviera Maya.

If you’re looking for things to do in Riviera Maya, it’s hard to beat this tour. We offer this tour from Cancun to Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza, and other locations. Book your deal today so you can explore Chichen Itza for less!

Classic Chichen Itza Tour Recommendations:

  • Comfortable walking shoes & light clothing
  • Sunglasses & hat
  • Swimsuit & towel for the Cenotes
  • Camera (if using professional grade one or video inside of the Ruins you may have to pay a $3usd fee)
  • Biodegradable sunblock (Chichen Itza is very open to the sun)
  • Eco friendly insect repellent
  • Bring a light sweater if you are travelling in the Winter months
  • Cash for the Yucatan state tax of $242 pesos ($13 USD)
  • We recommend bringing extra money souvenirs, snacks, drinks, and anything extra that might catch your eye. Mexican pesos are best, but there is an ATM on site at Chichen Itza in case you forget.

Children: All ages welcome. However, this can be a long tour for small children so please use your own discretion when booking this tour. If you travel with children, you will probably want to pack some snacks and things to entertain them on the bus ride.
Children under the age of 4 are free if they sit on an adult’s lap, but will have to pay the entrance fee to Chichen Itza. Children 5-11 years old pay a discounted rate.

Cruise Ship Passengers: Unfortunately, this tour meets too early and is too long to match cruise itineraries. Ship guests can book the Private Tulum Express instead! Also an amazing Mayan Ruin site but right on the coast of the Riviera Maya

Restrictions: Wheelchair guests are welcome so long as the wheelchair is foldable and they’re accompanied by at least one person. Unfortunately, our bus doesn’t have a wheelchair ramp for non-foldable wheelchairs. Should you require a ramp, contact us for a personalized quote. We recommend a private Chichen Itza Pyramid tour as another option. Companions are recommended for wheelchair-bound visitors

Insider Tips for visiting Chichen Itza: If you are visiting Chichen Itza for the first time, using a certified tour guide is a must, especially if you are a history buff! This is our most economical way to do just that. The entrance fee simply gets you into the ruins, but there is little information on site if you are exploring alone. Make sure to ask your guide about the astronomical theories behind the design of El Castillo, you won’t be disappointed.

Groups: 7 or more? Contact us for a customized quote on private transportation today!
