Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins Tour at Night Departing Cancun, Playa Del Carmen & Riviera Maya Hotels
What if you could go back in time to when Chichen Itza was a bustling Mayan city? Imagine the sights, sounds, and culture you would experience. While you can’t hop in a time machine and set it for 800 CE, you can attend the Riviera Maya Chichen Itza Light & Sound Tour. Using the Chichen Itza pyramid as a backdrop, you’ll be treated to flashing lights and rhythmic music that explains the history of the Mayan civilization. This is among the most impressive of the Chichen Itza tours in Riviera Maya since it brings ancient civilization to life. If you’re looking for exciting and educational things to do in Riviera Maya, book a spot on this tour today.
You’ll start the evening off with a bang with a buffet dinner and welcome drink. Then you’ll have the chance to tour the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins. Here’s the best part – this takes place after normal hours, so you won’t have to fight the crowds. Instead, you’ll be with other people who are attending the Riviera Maya Chichen Itza Light & Sound Tour. That means you can get even closer to the ruins and read the signs without any issues. Take your time as you explore, and be sure to visit the observatory and ball court. They are both incredibly popular, and you will benefit from seeing them without the crowds.
After touring the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins, go back to the pyramid and grab a spot for the show. Before long, the music will start thumping, and the lights will begin to flicker and flash, creating images on the pyramid. The images will take you through ancient Mayan history while the music adds to the excitement.
It’s no wonder this is one of the most popular tours of Chichen Itza. You can take part in the fun by grabbing a deal today. We offer Riviera Maya tours that go from Cancun to Chichen Itza and Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza, so you can easily find what you need.

Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins by Night Recommendations:
- Comfortable walking shoes & layered clothing (it is hot during the day, but the evenings get chilly)
- Sunglasses & hat for sun protection (Chichen Itza is a very open site with little shade)
- Bio-degradable sunblock
- Eco friendly insect repellent
- Camera (if using a professional grade camera or video equipment inside of the Ruins you may have to pay a $3usd fee)
- We recommend bringing extra money when visiting the Chichen Itza Pyramid for souvenirs, snacks, drinks, and anything extra that might catch your eye. You should bring Mexican pesos with you as US dollars are not always accepted at the ruin’s sites. For your convenience, there is an ATM on site at Chichen Itza.
Children: There are no age restrictions, however the tour returns really late so we don’t suggest this for small children. If you travel with children, you will want to pack some snacks and things to entertain them on the bus ride.
Children under the age of 5 are free if they sit on an adult’s lap, but will have to pay the regular entrance fee to Chichen Itza. Children 5-11 years old pay a discounted rate.
Important Note: The Nights of Kukulcán Light and Sound Show is subject to weather conditions. The show may be canceled in bad weather.
Cruise Ship Passengers: Unfortunately, this tour is not compatible with cruise itineraries. We recommend taking another tour like the Private Tulum Express instead! Tulum is another amazing Mayan Ruin located on the coast of the Riviera Maya, making it a little more accessible for coordinating with cruise ship scheduling.
Restrictions: Wheelchair guests are welcome so long as the wheelchair is foldable and they’re accompanied by at least one person. Unfortunately, our bus doesn’t have a wheelchair ramp for non-foldable wheelchairs. Should you require a ramp, contact us for a personalized quote. We recommend a private Chichen Itza Pyramid tour as another option.
Insider Tip: The spectacular Mayan Ruins are already a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many people, and the light show just adds another layer to the awesomeness of the whole thing. If Tuesday doesn’t work for your schedule, but you think this Chichen Itza tour is the one for you (it is), then just book a private tour that will take you any day of the week!
